As part of our continued partnership with Witley and Milford Parish Council, on a foggy Saturday November morning, Roots for the Future co-founders, Dan and Francesca planted three semi-established Weeping Willow trees at Witley Recreation ground.

Run off from a nearby hill makes this section of the recreation ground very wet and boggy and it can become impassable. Willows love water and are great at mitigating flooding. They are also extemely fast growers and can grow up to two meters per year. So it won’t take long for these trees to do the job of reducing the waterlogging and providing shade to park users on hotter days.

This is the third tree planting collaboration we have had with Witley and Milford Parish Council. Last year we were delighted to add more beautiful cherry tree blossom to a much loved avenue in Milford. And we had a great morning planting oak saplings with Rodborough school councillors and parish councillors. We look forward to more projects in Witley and Milford, ensuring succession planting for the future.

The best thing about planting so locally is that we get to see the trees grow and make a difference to our community. The Sunday after we planted these willows, we happened to pass Witley Rec, and along with our seven-year-old we called out to the trees “Grow little trees, grow!” ????????????
