Autumn can evoke a variety of emotions in different people. It can bring a sense of nostalgia because it’s associated with childhood. It can bring feelings of anxiety as daylight shortens and the weather changes, or bring feelings of depression, as spring feels so far away. For some, autumn can feel like a time of embracing change and a fresh start especially as it brings a new academic year.

I used to not like autumn, it me it made me downhearted that the summer was over. However, since having an October born child, I now really love this season. I look forward to Halloween, the changing colours of leaves and the unique smells it brings. It can be extremely beautiful if you keep your senses open to the changes.

It is also a perfect time for forest bathing. Autumn is a wonderful season to forest bathe in. The ground is soft with fallen leaves, the colours are a feast for the eyes and the toadstools are the stuff of make-believe!

Roots for the Future is hosting an autumnal forest bathing session this October. This session will be held from 1:30pm until 4:30pm on Saturday 5 October 2024 at the woodland at Birtley House near Bramley.

This session aims to help you move into the darker, chillier months with positivity by immersing yourself in a woodland wellbeing afternoon. We will be appreciating the gradual change from greens to goldens and red. Birtley is a charming private forest, a hidden gem, with water to gaze into, wildlife to listen to and colours a feast for your eyes.

Forest bathing is a slow, quiet and mindful walk in the woods, opening up all your senses to the forest and noticing the beauty of nature. Our main objective is to provide you with a deeply relaxing experience and to give you some ideas to take away to recreate that experience in your own time. Forest bathing benefits are proven by scientific research. You can read more here.

The cost is £35 for a three hour session, plus a small booking fee. The afternoon culminates in a guided meditation and then hot tea.

Francesca from Roots for the Future is a certified mindfulness and meditation teacher and forest bathing guide, having trained with the forest bathing insititute, fully insured and DBS checked. She is also a mental health first aider.
